The UArctic Photo Competition is an annual event organized by the University of Arctic (UArctic) in collaboration with the Arctic Sustainable Art and Design Thematic Network (ASAD). The theme of the competition in 2022 is Arctic Polarities.

Hundreds of species of plant-eating mammals, birds and insects – known as herbivores – inhabit the Arctic tundra. Some of these are vital for local communities and northern cultures, including domesticated reindeer and sheep, and hunted caribou, muskox, ptarmigan and geese.

This book offers multidisciplinary perspectives on renewable economies in the Arctic and how these are being supported scientifically, economically, socially, and politically by Arctic states.


On December 6, leadership from UArctic higher education member institutions convened for their first face-to-face meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The award is handed out during the High North Dialogue Conference in Bodø.

When you have a research project involving 21 research institutions across nine countries, it is complicated – even without the challenges of a global pandemic, which aside from wreaking havoc on human health and healthcare systems has been a disaster for field work and regular meetings.

The Arctic Five is a partnership between Luleå University of Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Umeå University, the University of Lapland, and the University of Oulu, whom together aim to lead the way on key Arctic issues.
