In tandem with the opening of the legislative session in January, the University of Alaska released the first in a series of informational reports to aid state leaders as Alaska confronts a rapidly changing Arctic and the increasingly globalized North.

The second day of the UArctic Assembly 2023 involved decisions about finances, new Thematic Networks, the UArctic Nominations Committee as well as Friends of UArctic. You can read the decisions that were made from here.




The UArctic Assembly 2023 is being held May 22-26 in Québec City, Canada. The meeting is hosted by Université Laval. The meeting brings together over 100 participants from across UArctic’s membership.

The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a Master’s student in Quaternary geology/glaciology. This two- to three-year position will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.

UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Academia Borealis - The Academy of Sciences and Letters of Northern Norway, and Tromsø Research Foundation welcome nominations for The International Mohn Prize for Outstanding Research Related to the Arctic (The Mohn Prize).

The Journal assocated with the Institute of Arctic and Alpine research (INSTAAR) at the University of Colorado, Boulder – the Journal of Arctic, Antarctic and Alpine Research released a special issue focusing on Ecosystem Services, Sustainable Development, and Socio-Ecological Health in Arctic and Cold Region Environments.

UArctic is searching for motivated and enthusiastic interns for the fall 2023 who are interested in Arctic matters and willing to acquire knowledge of the Northern region: its environment, people and culture.
