Antioch University New England has highlighted its recent membership in UArctic during a visit by UArctic President Lars Kullerud and Vice-President Organization Outi Snellman, as reported in the Keene Sentinal. Antioch president Stephen Jones is the former chair of UArctic's Board of Governors.

Lapland University Press has released a new book on art and design, Relate North 2014: Engagement, Art and Representation. Edited by Timo Jokela and Glen Coutts, this is the first international peer-reviewed publication produced as part of the work of the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD).

North Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, Russia, (NEFU named after M.K. Ammosov) is holding a PhD course within the Uarctic Thematic Network Arctic Extractive Industries this week. The workshop is from November 9 to November 15, 2014.




Five master’s degree programs at the University of Lapland, Finland will be open for applications December 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015. The programs are Arctic Art and Design, Comparative Social Work, International and Comparative Law, Media Education, and Tourism, Culture and International Management. Studies start in Sept 2015.

The Supplementary Issue of the journal Barents Studies has been published for 2014 with the theme, "Colourful stories about everyday life and research in the Barents Region."


At their recent meeting in St Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, UArctic’s Board of Governors appointed fourteen students to the first ever group of UArctic Student Ambassador. Nominated by individual UArctic higher education institution members, ambassador appointments are for a three year term.

Organizers announce that the 'Arctic Offshore Conference' will be held27-28 November 2014 in Aarhus, Denmark. The focus of the conference will be on regulatory governance of offshore activities, with an emphasis on risks of oil spill in the Arctic seas.
