If you are looking for a place to live and study in the Russian European North, you can arrive in the capital city of the Komi Republic and apply for studies at Syktyvkar Forest Institute which is located in the forestiest beautiful part of Europe. In spite of its name the curriculum is not limited to forestry related studies, we provide training on ecological, civil, road, forest engineering; economics, wood processing, agriculture, management, IT technologies, etc.
Though almost all training is so far in Russian, we annually organize and conduct Summer and Winter Schools for the international students. They can be organized on different topics. An interdisciplinary Forest Summer School, for instance, is a combination of lectures, field study trips to boreal forests accompanied by a short Russian language course and combined with a diverse cultural program both in the city and in the countryside.
Collaboration between Training, Business and local Authorities enhances the efficiency of joint projects, various workshops, seminars, conferences and master classes. We have made a lot of efforts to become the center that attracts and unites research, business, training and governing structures and accumulates new innovative ideas, creates new knowledge, assists in problematic issues solutions. Our partners - local biggest business companies and mills, organizations, Ministries, Model forest “Silver taiga” are actively involved into educational activities. We provide our graduates with the required knowledge and skills to fit well into the contemporary professional world.
We established the International Council in Forestry Higher Education professional training in the Finno-Ugric Countries and the Russian Federation regions in 2009 to share the best experiences in forestry and timber industry issues and to improve education, research, business and the state governing authorities' cooperation. Finno-Ugric world is quite active in carrying out joint activities which are aimed at keeping the unique social-cultural traditions, ethnographic and linguistic peculiarities of its peoples, the International Council is supposed to become an international platform for sharing professional experiences and problem discussions dealing with the Forest cluster issues, as forest used to be the basic part of life and culture of the Finno-Ugric people. We are always open to new ideas and cooperation!
