Kajaani University of Applied Sciences

KAMK is a proactive, genuinely international university with a strong regional and national profile. KAMK is the most international organisation in the region, with over 200 international students. We offer 9 Bachelor's and 5 Master's degrees in Finnish and 3 Bachelor’s degrees in English.

KAMK has a wide outreach in Finland and globally. The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) awarded KAMK a quality label, which is valid for six years until 20 March 2021.

KAMK’s campus facilities include a state of art data center and game design labs, 3D printers, a robotics and virtual reality lab as well as a Smart Gym with a digitalised environment and games to boost training.

According to the KAMK’24 strategy there are following main principals:

  • KAMK is a true beneficiary of internationalisation and digitalisation.
  • Students are at the core of all activities.

In line with its strategy, KAMK aims to increase the quality and the attractiveness of KAMK operations and to increase the impact of R&D operations with the aid of selected partnerships and networks.

KAMK has 112 international partner HEIs of which 18 are located in countries situated in the UArctic member countries. Furthermore, KAMK is cooperating in projects with research centres and tens of businesses located in countries situated in the UArctic member countries.

KAMK has about 50 R&D projects running every year and in many of them there are partners from the north, especially in projects funded by NSPA, Erasmus+ and the Nordic Council.

KAMK is already working intensively with many members of UArctic: the Universities of Oulu, Lapland, Luleå, Mid-Sweden, Petrozavodsk, Iceland, Aalborg, and University of Applied Sciences: Diaconia, Lapland, Laurea, Oulu.

KAMK is also working actively with the Barents regional council.

Focus Areas

The five schools at KAMK each have their own focus area that contributes to the KAMK profile. The KAMK profile is based on the focus areas, i.e. smart solutions are developed by all five schools.

    • Activity Tourism and Sports focuses on adventure activities: development of sports and tourism products and services. There is a strong emphasis on snow activities and winter sports.
    • Information Systems focuses on game and measurement applications: datacenter solutions, serious games based measurement technology competence, new smart solutions
    • Health focuses on smart home care: smart solutions in nursing and healthcare
    • Mining and Mechanical Engineering focuses on production systems: (digital) production automation, and robotics
    • Business and Innovation focuses on business potential: competence in identifying and refining business opportunities to create profitable international business operations
