The programme emphasises on biodiversity and conservation biology issues. It focuses on preparing students for future leadership positions in conservation biology and environmental ecology. The programme provides the students with appropriate knowledge in ecology and population genetics of plant, animal and fungal species, with emphasis on endangered species and ecosystems.
Students will learn methodical skills in the field of molecular ecology and genetics. This competence is needed in the environmental administration and research in the fields of e.g. conservation biology and restoration ecology. The programme includes an internship period either in environmental administration or research institutes in co-operation with a network of European environmental administration and research institutes.
The studies may follow either of two lines: ecology or bioscience. The major subject can be animal ecology, plant ecology or genetics. Students can also include a free-choice minor subject to their degree. This degree enables to further PhD studies in ecology and genetics.
