Applied Environmental Studies

Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary program that takes an holistic approach to the environment.


The Environmental Studies Program offers various degree options:

  • 3-Year BA
  • 4-Year BA
  • 4-Year Honours BA
  • 4-Year BSc
  • 4-Year Honours BSc or
  • 4-Year BSc (joint program with Red River College).

Following the general principles of sustainability, the BA programs offer an integrated understanding of the environment, acknowledging human impact, and providing a framework to develop future solutions to environmental problems within two distinct streams. The BSc programs offer an integrated understanding of the environment, acknowledging human impact, and providing a framework to develop future solutions to environmental problems within four distinct streams. In the joint degree program students are required to take courses at both The University of Winnipeg and Red River College in a prescribed sequence. The program has been specifically designed to prepare students for careers in industry where practical and theoretical skills are necessary.

BA students can take one of the following two streams:

  • Issues in Sustainability or
  • Urban Environments.

BSc students can choose from among the following four streams:

  • Chemistry
  • Forest Ecology
  • Forest Policy and Management or
  • Global Environmental Systems.

They also have the opportunity to add on a Business Stream.
