Cold Regions Field Investigations

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to geotechnical survey methods in permafrost regions using geophysical and in-situ boring techniques.


Special emphasis is given to the theoretical background of ground penetrating radar systems and their applicability in cold regions. Accurate positioning is very important in remote areas, thus the background for the use of Differential GPS is included. The course will also give an introduction to global navigation satellite systems (GNSS/GPS) and to reference systems for coordinates and heights.
