Norway-Canada-USA collaboration

The first field-school of the International Partnerships for Excellent Education and Research (INTPART) project titled, "Arctic Field Summer Schools: Norway-Canada-USA collaboration" will be organized by University of Tromso (UiT) - the Arctic University of Norway and will convene 15 May-2 June 2017. This field course is only open to U.S.-based graduate students enrolled at U.S. universities.

During this first Norwegian Field School, students will participate in a remote sensing and ship-based field school at Svalbard and Tromso. The course is divided in two closely related segments, starting with a one-week field course on board the research vessel Lance to the marginal ice zone in and around Svalbard, where the participating students will receive introductory lectures and collect in-situ and remote sensing data to be analyzed in the subsequent segment.

The second week will take place at the Centre for Integrated Remote Sensing and Forecasting for Arctic Operations (CIRFA), located within the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Physics and Technology at UiT. This part of the course will cover analysis of data collected in the field and additional archived data. The participating students will have to submit an individual report or an oral presentation at the end of the school, and will be able to earn credits for participation based on an assessment of the work.

The class will be offered as a two-credit University of Alaska Fairbanks summer course and students willing to earn credits need to enroll
for the class.

Travel grants will be issued to cover round-trip international travel costs.

Applicants must submit a one-page letter of motivation that outlines how this course fits into their graduate study and career plans, a
