Marine Geophysics

The lectures cover basic principles for interpretation of seismic reflection data, seismic stratigraphy, 3D seismic and seafloor imaging.

Electromagnetic sounding is presented as a method providing additional information to acoustic data. The lectures will give a short overview of the theory and philosophy of the modules of a typical, basic processing sequence, explaining the necessary geophysical background without rigorous mathematics. The main focus of the course is a set of practical exercises, which will be carried out on work stations using the ProMax software for 2D seismic processing. The students will through the exercises perform the basic processing steps on a short seismic section. The practical interpretation exercises are obligatory.
