Marine Geology and Geophysics Cruise

The course is based on cruises with R/V "Helmer Hanssen" in the waters of Svalbard, the Fram Strait and the Arctic Ocean. International research topics of current interest and research questions relevant to AMGG will be studied in groups.


The course will cover the following topics: ocean water masses including sea-ice melting, sea-ice build up and brine formation; the dynamics of the ocean floor and its subsurface; fluid flow escape features; marine geohazards, modern and fossil ecosystems; paleoceanography, paleoclimate and glacial history.
