Production and Growth in Polar Areas

The subject deals with population dynamics and growth in pelagic and benthic organisms i boreal/polar areas and interactions between organism groups.

The course covers methods and regulatory mechanisms for primary production in phytoplankton and ice algae, and secondary production at lower trophic levels, especially zooplankton and benthos. Another theme is population dynamics and models. In addition to lectures, the course consists of article seminars on current research themes, laboratory and computation exercises and, if possible, a cruise.
