Members of the UArctic Thematic Networks “Ageing and Gender in the Arctic” and “Health and Well-Being in the Arctic” gathered in Reykjavik for the final workshop of the project “Understanding ageing, gender and ethnicity: Experiences from European Arctic” (AGE-Arctic) August 29-30, 2023. The Nordic networking and research project was funded by Nordic Council of Ministers as well as NAPA and lasted from 2020 to 2023, led by the University of Lapland.

The purpose of the AGE-Arctic project was to explore ageing, gender, and ethnicity through the lens of equality, social justice, and distance in the Nordic and related northern geographical contexts. The final product of this international team effort is the book published in June 2023 by Routledge and entitled “Distance, Equity and Older People’s Experiences in the Nordic Periphery Centering the Local”. In addition to celebrating the book and project success, members met to discuss next steps of cooperation and to brainstorm ideas for future research.
