Development of the Samotlor Oil Field, discovered in the 1960s, was a challenging experience for the Soviet oil industry. Harsh climate conditions with extremely low temperatures in winter, endless swamps, remote location - all that required new technologies, and those technologies made Samotlor special.

The School will take place in the town of Nizhnevartovsk, the closest to Samotlor. Students will be able to:
- get acquainted with the history of Russian oil production industry, geology, petroleum development and drilling technologies and equipment;
- visit oil production industrial companies and units;
- see historical and cultural sights located in Nizhnevartovsk and the capital of the region – Khanty-Mansiysk;
- meet Russian students and get acquainted with the Russian educational system.
