Students from two UArctic member institutions participated in the annual Nenets language competition
The 6th annual competition for Nenets youth in their native language "Vadava letrahava" ("Let's preserve our mother tongue") took place in the city of Naryan-Mar, Russia, on previous Saturday, November 24.
Three teams of students from Nenets Autonomus District demonstrated their knowledge of native language and culture. Two of those teams represented UArctic member institutions: "Nats'mboy piribtya" (The Youth of the Tundra) from Naryan-Mar Social Humanitarian College and "Maebetanany" (Strong guys) from Nenets Agrarian Economic Technical School.
Students performed songs and theatrical sketches in Nenets, spoke about their ancestry and nomadic life in tundra, took Nenets culture quizes. The competion has become annual to promote indigenous Nenets language and culture among young people of the region. This year it was held for the 6th time.
The Youth of Tundra team representing the Naryan-Mar Social Humanitarian College won the 1st prize.
The competition was organized by the Ethno-Cultural Centre of the Nenets Autonomous District.
