The aim of the conference is to involve a wide range of experts from Russia and abroad in discussing the issues of regional and local socio-economic development, modern economic geography and spatial planning, improvement of statistical and ana-lytical information support to decision-making in spatial planning, promotion of regional and municipal statistics.

Background: The conference is biennial, honouring the memory of a prominent Rus-sian economic geographer, statistician, and enthusiastic educationalist Konstantin Ar-seniev (1789-1865). His versatile scientific activities and bondage to the City of Petro-zavodsk and Karelia have been a motivation for establishing a conference in memory of his scientific and public work and in recognition of his contribution to Russian and world science. The conference has been held in Petrozavodsk since 1995.

Conference participants: Scientists, specialists, experts, professors and lecturers, PhD students, legislators and administrators, NGOs are invited to take part in the conference.

Main conference themes:

 

  1. Economic geography issues related to the future of the administrative arrangement of Russia and other countries, enhancement of economic zoning, spatial planning, and spatial arrangement of production facilities in the context of globalization, regionalization and structural transformation of the economy and economic space.
  2. Spatial development statistics issues related to improvement of the system of analytical information support to decision-making in spatial planning, statistical accounting, compatibility of international and national statistical standards, development of regional statistics and establishment of municipal statistics.

Conference Publication: The conference materials will be collected into a volume to be published after the conference. The volume will get an RSCI index, and be included in the editions and digital resources of the conference information partners. The most interesting papers will be published in the Scientific Journal “Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre RAS”, Series “Region: Economics and Management”.

The conference is arranged by the Institute of Economics and the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research of the Karelian Research Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences; together with Petrozavodsk State University, and the Federal State Statistics Service Regional Agency for the Republic of Karelia.

The conference fee has been annulled and participation is now free of charge as the conference received support from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project № 14-06- 20414).

To be admitted to the conference please submit the application as described below to the Institute of Economics, KarRC RAS before September 30, 2014, and full paper be-fore October 10, 2014.

The Organizing Committee is entitled to selecting papers to be presented at the conference.

The conference shall comprise two sessions with selected oral presentations. The rest of the papers shall be in poster format, posted on information boards during the confe-rence and at the Institute of Economics website.
