The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), in conjunction with the U.S. NSF Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Thermokarst Project, is hosting a free webinar series entitled "Introduction to Changing Permafrost in the Arctic Landscape" on Wednesdays (7 September to 30 November 2011) from 7:30-9:00 GMT.

This webinar series will take an interdisciplinary look at permafrost and thermokarst dynamics in Alaska's North Slope. It is designed for participants from a broad range of backgrounds including physical, biological, and social sciences in order to take a holistic look at changes in the terrestrial arctic system. Topics that will be covered include an overview of permafrost and thermokarst, impacts of thawing permafrost on people, geomorphology, soils and microbes, and arctic vegetation, streams, and lakes.

For a full list of topics and speakers, please visit: http://apecs.is/permafrost-course-2011. To learn more about the ARCSS
