Presentation of comparative study on Arctic strategies and state policies by Dr. Lassi Heininen
Dr. Lassi Heininen, Chair of the NRF Steering Committee, presented an
overview and comparative study on Arctic strategies and state policies
of seven Arctic states in the meeting of the Standing Committee of
Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region on the 22nd of February 2011 in
Tromsö, Norway.
The overview is based on a study 'Arctic Strategies & Policies:
Inventory & Comparative Study' done by Heininen and published by the
NRF and University of Lapland.
"Though the study is ready and just published, it is a draft until Sweden will approve and launch its arctic strategy or policy. The Swedish government intends to do so in the spring of 2011." Says Dr. Heininen.
The Northern Research Forum and the University of the Arctic put forth the proposal to initiate a project concerning an “Inventory and Assessment on Arctic and Northern policies, and the Interplay between Science and Politics in Northern Issues”.
